Hi, I’m Amber, and I’m cooking the alphabet with my two toddlers!
Today we did a little throwback to the original Baby Eats The Alphabet book and incorporated ugli fruit into our recipe to make Unsweetened Applesauce Ugli Fruit Bites...well, kind of. Ugli fruit is pretty hard to come by, which is why I replaced it in my book with Unsweetened Applesauce, but since ugli fruit is a cross between a tangerine or orange and a grapefruit, we used a tangerine and grapefruit as a replacement.
What you need:
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup rolled oats
1 tangerine
1 grapefruit
You can replace the tangerine and grapefruit with 2 ugli fruit
Tools: Potato Masher, Spatula
Getting The Kids Cooking:
Set-up tasks your toddler can help with include:
Grabbing kitchen tools
Grabbing ingredients
Washing off fruit
Preheating oven to 350 degrees
Then the fun part comes:
Mash banana
Juice grapefruit and tangerine into a bowl, you can leave any pulp
Mix banana, juice, and applesauce
Add oats and mix well
Spoon cookie-sized balls onto a baking tray, flatten with a spatula
Bake 10-15 minutes until bites firm up
Remember to take photos of your little chef mashing, juicing, and mixing!
Now that the kids had fun, it's mama's turn!
Let's assemble the U page in our Baby Eats The Alphabet Recipe Book!
What you need:
Of course, we recommend purchasing a Baby Eats The Alphabet kit, which will have everything you need to create your recipe book keepsake (except the photos of your little ones), but honestly, the point is to create a beautiful book of your memories - which you can with: printed photos, paper (we recommend paper at least 8.5" x 8.5" so you can fit a photo plus the recipe!), double-sided tape, any fun embellishments you want like stickers, washi tape, or photo protectors, and something to hold your pages, like binder or scrapbook!
Write your recipe:
Use a small piece of paper to write down the recipe you used, and any memorable notes you want to record, for example, "We had to bring back the ugli fruit one last time!"
...So as I was making this page, I kept feeling like something was wrong and I just now realized I forgot to write down the unsweetened applesauce in this recipe! Whoops!
Pick your photos and lay everything out:
Before applying any tape, I recommend you lay out all of your elements to make sure everything fits and you like how it looks. Once you're happy with it, tape everything down, starting with the bottom layer first! And here's how mine turned out:
I would love to see what you decided to cook and create for U is for Unsweetened Applesauce! Please tag me in your creations @BabyEatsTheAlphabet!
